My last blog post

Aah blogging. Where do I start? A topic I swore never to write about in a blog post, but here we are and thats exactly what I’m doing. Effectively this will be the first and last time I blog about blogging, unless it’s of direct benefit to one of my clients.

I believe that the blogosphere in current day is becoming a jumbled mass of recycled information and top 10 (or 20 or 100) lists of the author’s interest, or sometimes not even something they’re interested in. Merely an opportunistic attempt at attracting traffic. A trend I find worrying and one that is starting to pollute the web with ultimately useless content.

There are blogs that are published with valuable content like Andy Rutledge’s Design View and many others, but the whole blogging concept is tainted in my eyes with all the garbage out there that really just doesn’t need to be published… anywhere!

Because of this I’ve decided I’m going to pack my blogging shoes away and opt towards writing only useful and informative articles instead. The title may be a little misleading here as I won’t stop writing on allchorn.com, but rather be making a conscious decision to put more time and effort into writing more valuable articles.

Big changes to follow here on allchorn.com early in 2009.

I hear ya man. It’s hard to stand out from the crowd. Looking forward to your new direction.

Thanks Brad. Yeah, it’s hard, and probably something I ‘could’ do, but at what cost and to serve what purpose? I’m starting to think more in the long term than chasing peaks… if you know what I mean?

Well put. This is something that has been weighting on my mind as well for some time and I believe every blogger needs to sit down and ask themselves why they blog, and if it is beneficial to the overall growth of the internet as an information resource.

I look forward to reading your articles.

    P.S. Happy New Years

I look forward to publishing them…

Thanks Shane, and all the best to you for 2009 too.

Yeah, I certainly see what you mean, with hundreds of blogs now trying to just emulate sites like smashingmagazine (which is probably the only blog I forgive for the sin of the top10 link style), it’s hard to find any real motivation to keep reading blogs on a daily basis. Saying that though, there are still a few gems where you’ll find good, thoughtful articles such as writing from Zeldman, Jasonsantamaria, and Greg. At least those bloggers think before they write, produce their own material, and often serve up content that is useful or worthy of debate. So in 2009 perhaps there is still hope that blogging won’t see a complete demise we just have to dig a bit more to find the good stuff. ~Jim

I totally agree with you Ross.

I came to the same conclusion last December. Weblogs should be:

    Personal
Illustrative (very nice and simple photos on most posts)
Simple (no annoying javascripts or frilly designs that get in the way of reading and enjoying)
Helpful (the articles may not be all that frequent but they are all have some thought or use to someone, this is not posting for posting’s sake)

We all look forward to long incisive articles henceforth.

Thanks Alec. I’ll try my best not to disappoint.
