Before reading this page: Please realise that website design and development is ultimately a service. Every client we have dealt with has been unique in at least a couple of factors. As such, this is not a pricelist like you'd get from a hardware vendor, but more an indication of costs for certain aspects of web design & development.
Getting Started
Before anything we need to assess your situation. The three key factors at this stage are:
- Your project requirements
Design, CMS, online marketing, custom programming, copywriting etc. - Your time requirements
Does the project need to be complete in time for something like a trade show, exhibition, holiday or event? - Your budget
Have you done a thorough analysis of the likely ROI of the project, and do you know what sort of investment you are looking at making?
Every aspect of those three points are elaborated on and each will influence the costing of the project at hand.
Website Types & Price Ranges
Static Websites
For websites that don't need to be update regularly or as a starting point on a tight budget, a static site could be created and provide a solid web presence and serve an important business function.
Depending on the amount and type of content, a static site with custom design could come in as low as R7,000 - R10,000 and given the fact that there is literally no limit to the volume of your content or your budget can accommodate more revisions and refinements, the high end is infinite and pretty much up to you.
Content Managed Websites
Should the content of your website require updates on a regular basis, or if you'd like to be able to make text and image changes at will, then you'll need a CMS.
With a wide variety of content management systems out there, and so many different types of content to be managed, the costs for a CMS powered site could range anywhere from R15,000 - R20,000 for something simple and effective, and up to and over R150,000 - R200,000 for more complex requirements.
eCommerce Websites
Selling things online can be approached in a number of ways. There are online services where a considerable amount of cost and time can be saved when you only have one or a handful of products to sell, so best to ask us before anything.
To sell products online and run your online shop as it should be run, you will require a number of extra things over and above the average website.
- eCommerce Software (to manage stock, products, categories, orders etc.)
- A Merchant Account with a bank
- SSL Certificate (shared or dedicated)
- A Payment Gateway
As an example, setting up an eCommerce site with a custom design, credit card transaction ability, email ordering as an alternative, with a single currency and the system completely setup and configured, you're looking in the region of R30,000 and up.
When you're looking at hundreds, maybe thousands of products and multi currency, unique product types, CMS ability etc, you could easily be talking over R100,000 - R300,000 to set up shop.
Online Marketing & SEO
Spreading the word about your website over the internet is essential. Through careful planning, research, optimisation and making use of a number of budget based advertisement systems and other methods, you can be ranked well in the SERPS in a relatively short period of time (usually around 6 - 9 months) and acquire masses of targetted traffic in the meantime.
Starting on a tight budget, you could begin on an initial R5,500 - R6,000 with a monthly fee of around R1,000 - R1,200. If you want results quicker, you can look at around R9,500 - R11,000 initial and about R3,000 - R3,500 monthly.
Custom Work & Other Services
Custom developments generally follow the same project roadmap as any other jobs, but usually, the specification document is a far larger portion of the project than other types of developments. Unless a detailed enough brief is supplied, this planning and scoping document is normally a significant portion of the project.
